I traded a very slow, rubber-tire, no-cab skid steer for a somewhat faster (12 mph) rubber track skid steer (with a cab and heater!) In this cold weather I am tempted to drive it about 3 miles (1.5 mi each back and forth) occasionally on gravel roads between farms to feed hay, move logs, etc rather than plugging in and firing up the open station loader tractor. This is my first experience with tracks. Question is am I doing a lot of damage to the tracked skid steer drive train and tracks by roading it? Should I be trailering it back and forth rather than driving it down the gravel road? Time seems to be about a wash by the time I hook up trailer, warm up truck etc. on this short run. Mostly looking at not wanting to wear out expensive components. This is just in the dead of winter. In warmer weather I'll fire up the tractor at the second location. Any experience with this would be appreciated.
