Breckenridge, MI | If you're wanting 3 weeks to a month where the pens sit empty then buying every month wouldn't work very well.
What time of the year do you take off? I'm assuming either late summer or sometime in the winter.
Are you looking to feed coloreds or Holsteins?
If you wanted to take the month of August off I would buy 100 4wt Holsteins in early September and 100 5wt's in early October. Contract them all for July and when they call and ask to schedule them for slaughter tell them July 31st. Get your pens cleaned up and fixed up in the week after they leave and then enjoy your 3 week vacation.
Two turns of yearling coloreds would work too but it may be harder to find the cattle when you need them to keep yourself with a month open when you want it.
