Franklinton, LA | My four grandchildren are 11 - 14 years old and they all have nice phones. They are involved in sports, dance and karate. It is very convenient for their parents to contact them and find out where they are, what they are doing and when they need to pick them up. The children can easily communicate with their parents if they have problems.
More importantly, they are honing their skills at using the phones for information. It is almost like having a library with mountains of data at their disposal. I think developing these skills at an early age will be very helpful in the world they will live it.
I realize there are potential problems with smart phones. However, it is the parents job to teach them what they should or should not do and monitor their activities. It is also the parents job to set rules and take action if they break the rules. For example, the parents can take the phones for ??? days if they do not behave as told.
