Western-Central Lower Michigan | I was young driving tillage tractor. BUT the tractors then were WAY WAY smaller and less H.P. (30hp or less) and the fields were right by the house.
Today with wide tillage tools, and tractors as big as they are, I'd be leaning toward a gradual learing process (over a few years), but no roads till they were really responsible, and had lots of experience.
Sure, let them run the lawn tractor, ride with you and maybe start by YOU sitting in the buddy seat and taking turns running equipment.
