Subject: RE: Cold air return for Propane furnace

Warm air goes out from the furnace and cold air comes back. Needs similar airflow for each for uniform heating.

A house my dad built in the late 40's he used the entire crawl space for the cold air return and put hot air only into the living room with a big vent, but aligned with the hallway to the bedroom. It worked decently and with a pot type oil burner furnace with a forced draft it was very efficient.

The house I live in now has one cold are return to the furnace in the central hallway wall but ducts to each room for hot air. When I bought it in 2009 I put in a new 93% efficient furnace and heat the place with half the LP the previous owner burned each year. My dad's house didn't have bedroom doors but this one does and closing the door inhibits cold air return and uniformity of room heating.
