I have a gearbox that the shaft has a little play in, not terrible but I like things tight. Anyway the tappered bearings on each end are held on by a snap ring, and I was wondering how to tighten them up if there even is a way? Or do I just not worry about the little bit of play in the shaft? Or do I replace the bearings? I'm afraid if I replace the bearings with no way of making them any tighter I might still have the same amount of play. It's the bottom gearbox on a auger if that makes any difference. It's augered roughly 300k bushel so I wouldn't think the bearings would be bad yet? Any expert advise? IDK, what do you guys think? Run heavy synthetic oil and let it be. Some play needed for expansion when it runs fast/heats up. |
