Subject: Gearbox

NE Nebraska
I have a gearbox that the shaft has a little play in, not terrible but I like things tight. Anyway the tappered bearings on each end are held on by a snap ring, and I was wondering how to tighten them up if there even is a way? Or do I just not worry about the little bit of play in the shaft? Or do I replace the bearings? I'm afraid if I replace the bearings with no way of making them any tighter I might still have the same amount of play. It's the bottom gearbox on a auger if that makes any difference. It's augered roughly 300k bushel so I wouldn't think the bearings would be bad yet? Any expert advise? IDK, what do you guys think?
