Subject: 9770sts variable speed rotor drive sheaves

I am working on a 9770sts for a friend that had the rotor drive belt break and it took the seal out on the engine gear case behind the variable speed sheaves for the rotor drive. How do those sheaves come off from the shaft? I have the line off and the piston off, which came extremely hard. I talked to the local dealer and they said after I got the snap ring and bushing out from the outside sheave it would give enough play to slide the sheave past the frame. I can't even begin to get that bushing to move out of the sheave. Is that the correct way? I'm not sure that bushing being out of there will give it enough room but I don't have a tech manual for the machine either. Tia
