I don't disagree with what you are saying, Vailcat but I will say in there defense that there are large regional differences between your spring wheat area and my WW area.

Consider that in the eastern (where I am) part of the WW belt high protein wheat is just not that common. We flat out get too much rain and we as producers (myself included) tend to chase yield (and varieties that produce it) instead of protein. Yes, that could be helped if we were paid for protein and if it was bred for as a primary attribute rather than yield being #1... blame to go all round included to we the producers. Still, lots of years weather will be primary factor for not getting to where we need to be.

That said, a 15% cut to salaries of top 10% of Co-op management would probably buy quite a few protein testers!!!
