Well said.  If someone can explain what a grower can do to instantly make high protein in HRW grown in this region, I'm all ears.  If it was that easy, I'd gladly do it and find a way to store 100% of my wheat at harvest and haul it somewhere that would pay the premium.

Reality is though, that protein is 98% weather and 2% management.  In my entire career (which spans 23 +/- crops), I have only seen the combination of good yields and high protein one year, which I think was 2008.  Other than that, good yields = low protein, poor yields = high protein.

I'd gladly manage for it if it was feasible to do so.  But until then, the individual producer is really just rolling the dice in the weather casino when it comes to protein.
