We have been ultra sounding for years because I need to keep the older calves away from younger calves to avoid scours at calving time. We had bulls out for 65 days and I asked the vet to group them so we could sort now and not next spring. Everything bred for the first 35 days were called early and everything in the last 30 days of the breeding season would get called late, marked with hydrogen peroxide and sorted. We had 5% open which is normal, 2% late, and 93% in the early group. I was shocked, normally we have about 15% in the late group but to just have 2% was really unusual. When we started calving in May and June I was warned by some that they won't breed very well in the heat of August. My experience has been just the opposite, it seems to be getting better every year.
