King City, Mo | If it was profitable on more acres you'd see more people planting them.
It would cost me $15 to drill the rye plus $10+ for seed. So that's atleast $25 spent to save $20???
The fields with rye here Are still having trouble with RR resistant marestail in them which means paraquat burn down with sencor and 20gpa of water.
Yes cover crops do good things to the soil but they aren't as good as all the hype is about them. I have had organic matter on the soil test go up on a 2 acre plot that was tilled every year.....
I am good with people planting covers and all but please do it with your own money not gov money.I planted them on my own and didn't get money from the NRCS to do it.
I planted turnips after sweet corn this year and if my wheat crop doesn't turn out I'll notill beans into whatever green wheat is there. | |
