Northwest IL Jo Daviess Co | I am a pioneer believer - and I like the seed guy---PIO 0825 has been by far my best performer for corn---but seed costs are out of control. Seed should be 10% or less of expected gross revenue. 200 BPA corn at $3 clear after basis (but not including truck, dry and store) is $600 x .10 = $60 per acre cost x 2.5 = $150 per bag MAXIMUM for top genetic traits. And that is stretching because no one knows what you will be able to sell that 200 bpa for on the other end .... Could go up then we win one, but if it goes down, which has been the trend, then we lose lose lose. I hate to lose at anything especially business |
