Eastern Ontario | I spent some time over the last couple days jack hammering out some concrete.
This old barn had a cow stable basement underneath it. Back in the late fifties as a boy my dad worked for the farmer who owned it. They knocked out the stable and lowered this building about 6 feet onto a new foundation. The foundation was all hand mixed concrete. The barn was then used to store small square bales. I guess back then crop insurance just meant having a years worth of hay in reserve.
Fast forward 60 years, and we now own a building that is not very useful. I rented a compressor and chipped out some cement. I was able to make 2 12ft and 1 15ft opening, and now have another place to park some machinery, or store round bales.
Also a picture of some 1st calf pairs. These 12 pairs spent most of the summer grazing in the woods. Stocking rate of 15 acres per pair. I feel like these girls really earned their keep. Just for comparison 3 acres of improved land can support a cow for a year here...
