that is done in electric railway systems. All it takes are investments in overhead lines and all electric train engines. Electric engines can be built for fairly heavy loads, like these
100 kWh of useable battery capacity are roughly equal to 30 liters or 8 gallons of diesel fuel. Edit, to "refuel" 100kWh in one hour, it takes a 83 Amp. at my local 400V 3phase power service. No chance to plug that one in with an extension cord at the motel room ;-)
