NEMO | Burned into my memory. $8 here, for a $20 bill lots of neighbors bought a butcher hog for there freezer. Pretty much sealed the deal for guys with 100 sows or less. Small feed stores, country buying stations, purebred breeding stock guys that would have 1 or 2 sales a year, all gone in a few short years. And then I read on here how some kid puts up a building that won't show a profit for 15 years just to get some manure and have a job (slave to the company). Remember reading in the hog magazines at the time about that Haw guy I think this name was, that was leading the charge with that business model. Thinking he's the one that owns that huge chunk of KS grassland now, meanwhile a whole generation of young stockmen mortgaged their future with a building or went to town to work.. Not saying what they did was wrong, but kinda sad in the name of efficiency. | |
