NW Indiana | I recently picked up some ground that has been pasture. It rolls quite a bit so I'm not sure row cropping is going to be the best for it. It is currently just grass, but we have a couple organic dairies in the area, and this piece will be eligible to be organic. I am going to meet with one of them on Monday to talk about possibly growing for them.
I know next to nothing about anything livestock related, we have always just done corn and soybeans. I am looking for some advice as to what I need to be asking the dairy when I meet with him. He mentioned that they purchase both haylage and dry matter. My original thought was to seed it down to alfalfa and go that route, but I want to see what their needs are first.
Do you guys have any pointers, or an I asking for trouble, it is only about 60 acres.
Thanks
