So what would a realistic profit could I expect for ownership of the pigs. I assume the work would be nearly the same? This would be over and above the $37/ pig space/year I get now.
Wow, that is a optimism loaded question if there was ever one.
Contract finishing hasn't bloomed like it has because hog producers were lazy.
I and several other producers on this forum have been in the trenches for decades, and if the young producer should learn anything, it would be that the hog industry is highly cyclical.
Some years that $38/pig space is a insult, some years it looks like a windfall. |
