Subject: Notill compaction ripper?

Western OK
Been working on stripping some cotton and while I was out there I pulled on some stalks. Some of the roots go sideways instead of down on some of the plants. This ground has been notill for around 10 years. We grow mostly wheat but it has been in canola, Milo, a cover crop blend, and now cotton (not necessarily in that order). We do graze cattle some but I have seen this on most of our farms, sometimes in specific areas but mostly random across the field.

Does a guy just need to bust it up? Are my notill benefits going to be erased?
