Yes, it should power back up just as you left if when it powered down and pick right back up where you were without re-selecting anything. There is no internal battery in this case, just make sure like said before that you have a good battery and keyed power source, because if it doesn't power down correctly, that's where you'll see things missing.

Since you said your using a 4 GB card I have a feeling that might be your issue right there, you don't really want to go any bigger than a 1 GB with these display as with them too much room is a bad thing. That's most likely why it takes so long to power down as it's going through everything on the card and then some. Usually a high speed 512 MB will suit you just fine and will have plenty of space for everything throughout the year. As a comparison a 2630 display has around 800 MB of storage and can hold a good amount of data before needing cleaned up.
