Go big...look at class 8s. We were looking for class 6, maybe venture up to 7--found that 8120s were just as cheap, if not cheaper than class 6s and 7s.
+1
Forget the "small" combines. They cost too much for what you get. Class 8 & 9's are where you get the best bang for the $'s.
We were looking at 2577/2588 combines a couple years ago. Ended up with a 2008 8010 with ~ 1100 sep hrs on it. Combine, 35' 2020 with an AWS air bar and a 1290 JD 12x20" cornhead was a little above your price range. After selling our old 1640 and heads we were right in the $100k area
There hasn't been a day yet that I've regretted getting a big combine. We can't haul corn away fast enough to come close to using it to capacity in corn but it's awesome to combine 15-20 acres of beans/hour. The guy driving truck never gets to take a break.
So far it's been a great combine and it's one of those "no good has to be something wrong with it" dealer liquidation auction machines. Came from way up north in small grains country. Those combines have less wear/separator hour than corn belt combines do.
