I use row cleaners only and factory closing wheels, JD 1760. Plant 8 inches off of old row which seems to be better for tires. Have planted at 12 degree angle to the old row but you need to set row cleaners fairly aggressive and you really need to be sure you're getting proper planting depth over the old row.
