Subject: Corn/Soybeans on the GMO fringe

EC Nebraska
Over in Market talk there are a couple threads discussing how the fringe areas may be able to keep growing corn and soybeans at lower price levels than the traditional corn belt. Corn and beans are as or more profitable than the traditional crops in many areas at current prices.

So here's my question for crop talk. Why is that? Improved genetics has got to be a lot of it. But why have corn and soybean genetics improved so much more than wheat?

How much of the difference is the fact that corn and soybeans are GMO, and wheat, lentils, etc, are not. How much of the improved soybean genetics is because you can't save the seed? (So there's a whole lot more money in the soybean seed market than there is in the wheat seed market? )

Have corn and soybean displaced canola in traditional canola areas?
