St. Joseph, Champaign County, IL | Belt driving alternator loose?
I’ll admit I know nothing about the specifics of the L3. That said, we had a 9400 Deere, that had a single V belt running the alternator. Dad could NOT keep the belt tight using just the existing adjustment bolt. Had to use Vice Grips as well, to back up that bolt. Had occasion for a mechanic to work on the combine, and he took the vice grips off. Next thing we knew, the alternator couldn’t keep up with the electrical load of the combine. Had to let it sit and charge the battery before we could engage the threshing system.
Finally alleviated the problem by putting a double pulley on the alternator and adding a second v-belt. There was already a provision for a second v-belt on the drive pulley.
Just throwing it out there. Best of luck. |
