Subject: Getting cows bred on fescue pasture (update)

south central IOWA
Last year I asked how a guy could get more cows bred on fescue pastures after having one of my pastures have around 25% opens and someone mentioned Hubbard mineral.

When Jon Schaben came to look at my calves last year I asked him if he ever heard of the stuff. He told me he swore by it and that guys in his area have good luck with it.

So this spring I went down to the guys at M&M ag in Osceola to see what they said. They set me up with Hubbard's fescue mineral. Even though the stuff is plenty pricey, I think I'm now one of those guys that swears by the stuff after preg checking the cows at that pasture this morning. I only had 1 cow open so that put me at roughly 3% open. With it as hot and dry as it was this year, I was wondering what kind of disaster I'd have at that pasture but looks like things will be ok.
