It's been a while, but IIRC that is similar to a 1095. There was somewhere along the frame where the rod would get hung up on trash or something. Make sure it has come to home before anything else.
Yes, you can bypass the microswitch. Not sure you leave it open or closed, but it's just a simple switch.
