We had the same problem, and of course no one at Mother Deere had heard of it either.
Step 1: Ignore everything the Deere men are telling you.
Step 2: Remove the John Deere feeder house chain and throw it in the scrap pile.
Step 3: Buy a chain with plastic slats from Harvest Services and enjoy combining without having to get out every so often and lay on the feeder house.

We combine a lot of tough crops, and haven't had it wrap once since we installed it over 500 separator hours ago. Plastic slats seem to be wearing well.
