| Two things came to my mind right away....
You can get the clear hose for John Deere hydro transmissions ( sight tubing ) for like an older 332, 322, 318, that I have used in the past, it will yellow over time 3-4 years.
Then give US Plastics a call or check them out:

This looks inexpensive enough, that a guy could change it out periodically.
Just some ideas.....
Edit...I liked that valve idea above, just a simple brass 1/4 turn ball valve would work for added protection.
