Subject: RE: Conserving Soil and Water with No-till and Crop Residue

South Dakota
I'm still playing with population. I did 34,000 on my irrigated ground and I did mostly 26900 dryland. I had some dryland I did 30,000. I think 26,900 is honestly about right, it gives me flexibility for good and bad years. I've had a field at 26,900 go 227.

On the tillage subject, I have only done strip till or no till since leaving the Marines. I do strip till in our irrigated and high PH ground and no till anything else. Me and dad battled on this cause we have a notill neighbor that isn't the best with weed control. That was dads perspective on no till: a weedy mess. He also had trouble believing you could get a good stand while doing nothing to the soil. I heard him say to a friend the other day "our beans look awesome, I would have trouble justifying pulling a disc out again." I celebrated that small victory, I proved no till Works.
