Subject: Corn dry down

Morris, IL
Hand shelled two corn hybrids today, two different fields. One was planted 4/24/17, 114 day corn, phone says 2600 heat units tested 35%, .75 lb. average corn weight, 32k final stand. Other was planted 5/19/17, 108 day corn, phone says 2375 heat units tested 35%, .67lb. average corn weight, 34k final stand.

Wondering when about these will hand shell 25 or bit higher? 5 more days here of high of 90 low of 65 degrees then cooling down quite a bit. Should be getting close to black layer i'd think by end of month hopefully.

One thing i was impressed with the kernel size and weight. First number tested about 53lb. second about 55lb. Seems pretty good weight this far from black layer as you can see, but i don't think we'll see those numbers above. We've been in garden spot all year, beans will be poor but i think corn will be just bit better then last.
