Death comes to us all. Life's but a walking shadow | Is the dollar strong due to artificial demand caused by the need for dollars to pay for oil? If so then as countries move away from using the dollar that demand should diminish and the dollar become weaker, yes? This will have two effects I can see, one imported goods will become more expensive and thereby favoring domestic production thus fixing our balance of trade. Two, our agricultural products will be cheaper on the world market so maybe we'll export more of them. I'm sure there will be other follow on effects as well. Public debt will cost more to service but maybe that will convince the politicians not to spend so easily. And maybe we'll begin to question if we really need to spend $900 billion per year on security ($550-600 billion for the military and $400 billion for Homeland Security). With a smaller military we might not be so eager for foreign adventures.
Lots of things to think about. |
