Subject: JD 8300 leaking seat fixed !

JD 8300 seat has been leaking down lately. Pumps up fine but as your going along it very slowly looses air and settles down. I have heard many times on Ag Talk about the dried out sealant where the fitting goes into the air pump.

Sort of a pain getting the plastic retaining buttons off the rubber skirt that covers the seat mechanism but managed to pry them off without breaking them.

2 screws releases the motor and pump assembly from the welded on tab. The plastic air line has an inner and outer ferrule that the nut draws down against.

Sure enough the brass elbow turned out easily and had a hard reddish colored sealant on it that had dried out.

Thought about using teflon tape but the elbow and pump looked pretty delicate and thought that might exert too much pressure and strip or break something. Ended up using some Rectorseal Tru Blu that is supposed to remain flexible on the brass connection where it threads into the air pump.

So far seems to be holding well and the seat has not leaked down any yet. Will see what happens over a couple days before reinstalling the retaining buttons on the rubber skirt.

Here it is all put back into place.

Edit: 24 hours later and no leak down at all. Button on arm rest was pressed to raise and nothing happened meaning no air was lost.
