SW South Dakota | Because it seems hard to get sorghum sudan to dry down, especially this time of year, I'd go if it is under 20%. I did some last year that had readings from 14% to 24% and it kept well. One year I did some that the dew set on heavy and they didn't burn up. They did turn brown inside, but the cows loved that and went after it like candy.
I generally try to bale it below 20%. If possible I like it to get good and dry then bale it at night when the humidity comes up to hold the leaves together. Then if the moisture checker gets into the 20% range I don't worry. | |
