Bremen, KS
Usually, whatever is mounted to Unistrut is done on the open side of the channel, but it depends on how it will be used. The spring nuts have grooves in them that fit in the channel lips on the open side while spring presses against the closed side to help hold the nut in place for starting the mounting bolt and the nut is often shaped so that it can be started on the bolt, then pressed into the channel and it will turn 90 degrees to engage the channel lips into the nut slots.

Some hardware stores and most electrical supply houses carry it so you can look it over.
