I have some friends whose daughter took last year off from basketball, team finished 2nd in state the year before and ended up getting 4th last year. She is a senior this year, and had pretty much been playing volleyball and/or basketball since she was 7, and her body was breaking down. This year she feels good and is enjoying sports again. Don't push her too hard too soon.
