While I agree there are ways to add value to our livestock, there is also more risk. I have family that works at a factory and had a good customer base. There always seem to be rumors running around the factory and we had one year where they all hit at the same time and we ended up with 24 head without homes in the days/weeks leading up to them going to processing. That's not a fun situation to be in. We still sell some freezer beef and pork, but not at the volume we once did. I do find that Facebook helps with selling product as we've sold most of ours to FB friends. I think I could expand my customer base again if we could work out bundles smaller than 1/4 beef or 1/2 a hog (60-80# meat bundles maybe), but I still have being stuck with 24 head in the back of my mind.
