Subject: RE: Planting Alfalfa

I would disc if it was me. The take a harrow. Have a 5 section Lindsay myself. Spike tooth. Set to be a bit straight to level the ground out good. Go over it twice at an angle. Then opposite angle for the second time. Seed your alfalfa an then take the harrow back over it. Set it pretty flat just to cover the seed an you should be fine.

Field cultivator is alright but a disc will firm up the ground better. Spike tooth harrows are excellent for seeding alfalfa. Leave a nice smooth surface. An make a nice firm bed. Alfalfa doesnt like to be in to deep in the ground. Usually on your ends where you turn around alot usually have a better stand then the rest off the field. I was testing my drill out one day in the farmyard an put it down in some hard ground. I think every seed grew in that. Good Luck.
