Big Sky Country | I neighbor a thousand cow outfit--composite cows---that breed almost all their heifers.
they winter them so rough that I'd be embarrassed.
I asked how much gain do you aim for?
basically:none
grass hay, they grow out some and look like hell. fields are grazed to the dirt.
before they start breeding, heifers are still in a maybe 700 acre subby field they wintered in and it's greening up. kinda flushes them.
they typically get 95% or better conception.
keep what they need, sell the rest---mostly to repeat customers. | |
