Shove them out with cows as soon as you can. If they can't survive what cows are getting now how will they survive when they are cows? If some don't get bred they pry wouldn't have survived as cows just cull them now rather then later


Agree with what you're saying 100%, but I see the there side too. Corn is cheap right now, calves are worth some money, maybe it makes sense to get a little better conception rate than what you'd get on rocks and scenery.

I think if you have excess heifers for what you need for future cows then the zero frills way is the best way to go, but If you're dealing with a larger % of your heifers needing to perform then you might want to run some numbers and see where you end up.

Adg of let's say 1.8 won't be spoiling them or breaking you. I think it is beneficial if you can keep them seperate. They are a teenage mom, a little extra protein is good for their own growth and the calf's growth and their breedback potential.
