Strasburg, ND | Mechanical work is the down fall of my farm. General farm help and equipment operators is also short. I am the only one mechanically inclined to fix anything. I am pretty handy but the mechanical gene even fell a little short for me. My John Deere bill last year was $33,XXX just for labor. This year I am already to $50,xxx. What the hell am I doing? This new equipment is hard for me to.figure out. It's time to.do something different.
I think it's time for a full time mechanic that could also sub as farmer. Has anyone successfully found a mechanic that is willing to "farm" also? What kind of benefits did you have to offer? Currently I just have 3 hourly worker guys. They just get X amount of money an hour and no benefits.
