west central Iowa | We have chopped earlage with a 5440 with screen and now a 6750 with kernal processor. We fill 24' stave silos. We use a IH 56 blower and JD 125 Chuck Wagons.
If you are buying a blower, buy the biggest to match a bigger tractor, it will speed up unloading. Have great tires on your wagons, they will be carrying a LOT of weight. We used to use grain gate in hopperof wagons, but now we don't. We usually start filling at 26 grain moisture. It will keep down to 15 moisture fine, just doesn't ensile much, even running a garden hose in the blower. Water at filling, does help keep dust down when unloading silo though. Earlage won't freeze to walls of silo as bad, if put in at a lower moisture. Nothing worse than beating frozen feed trying to change a door. Feed is wonderful coming out of silo! If going to use later, level off right after filling and put unloaded together. Disturb as little corn as possible when you get ready to use unloaded. There are some molds present then, that really bother me. Email in profile if you want to talk. | |
