-North Mo | Guess I got lucky - put on 45-0-20 Monday night and got 1/2" rain today - but not sure how all pays.
Just rolling some numbers out - probably geographical influenced but
Fertilizer/Agrotain/Cart Rental = 26.6 $/acre
could probably buy hay for ($40/bale + $3 for trucking + $2 per to feed)= (45$ cost - $12/ bale nutrients coming onto my land) = 33 $/bale total cost
If my bale weights 1400 lbs at 18% that is 1140 lbs dry matter.
Will a 45-0-20 ratio with 1.5"rain between mid Aug and early Nov make 898 lbs dry matter per acre? (898 is to 1140 as $26 is to $33)
Probably missed something ??? but taking it back the other way - 898 @ 18% moisture would equate to 1060, a little less that a bale of added material per acre.
But if all we get is another inch between now and November, hay won't be 40$.
Does fall fertilizer pay - or worth the risk? | |
