NE Oregon | That had always made sense to me. If you are doing things right, your youngest cows should be your best, on the whole. However there is something to be said for longevity and proven fertility.
Management wise it is easier to keep the cows running with charolais bulls, it is just one more thing to go pick out the old cows and swap them over to the young herd with black bulls. That is already a busy time of year but I acted as chief instigator of getting that done. | |
