I'm doing something similar. Split cowherd into two groups: one younger, smaller with good udders and calving ease. The second group of cows is older, bad udders, too large, etc.   First group has an excellent registered Hereford bull with them to make replacement cows as well as a keeper bull. Second group has a terminal Fleckvieh bull with all calves going to processor.  We'll see how this works out and start culling cows over the next few years. Cows will gradually move from the first group to the second group after their 2nd calf is weaned.

FLECKVIEH bull.......say it ain't so!!!
I thought you were died in the wool Herford guy.
And now you mention bad udders in Herfords..... I'm in shock :)

Just pulling your leg a little Jim. I've watched you go from a graze corn guy with
low inputs, cows in the woods type operation, to hay shed, silage in the bag, concretei,
and those fancy feed wagons............it's a slippery slope ...... Next up is a calving
barn with cameras and a cowboy comfort cave :)

Lol, got to avoid the tax man, keep it invested in the community
