NNW Nebraska | My brand is a lazy E (prongs up) over E.
Allows just one Iron, which for a electric iron saves $.
Makes only one trip to fire box when doing a big branding yding ropers.
All calves I buy and background are branded in a chute with a electric iron. Electric irons work better, in my opinion, when feasible to use them. They are always hot.
My baby calves are now branded at a day old, to a few days old, when I tag them. I have a small propane fire box on my ATV calf catcher. When already have calf caught, it don't take much time to apply brand. At that age. I use a iron that is just over 2"
2 or 3 month calves, on up I use a 3"+ iron.
Side brand screws up lots more leather than a hip brand, which csn be a consideration.
