southern MN | 4, that might be borderline now with the newest upgrades. I always forget if I have a 3 or a 4, but it wasn't fast enough in 2016, I got an Air 2 mini to go with the P3 I have,
Also, if you have a lot of overhead going on, with apps running in the background, and lots of stuff doing push notifications, the 4 iPad can be getting clogged down with background stuff. Do a cold shutdown, try it with the Internet off so it can focus on just the drone.
(again, random ideas, you might be well ahead of me.....)

Edit: looking at the app for your P4, the oldest they support officially is 5th generation iPad, no longer support the 4. I know some are getting away using a 4, but the latest app upgrade might have pushed over the edge?
