Watching The latest scam is they are using voice over IP and computers to spoof numbers that appear to be local calls. Got several that appear to be from a local number and it turns out the number was from a guy who just recently passed away. Called number back and got a recording that this number is unavailable. All these calls seem to be geared about some resort package. Since I've never been to any resort ever its all bogus. Stuff is always phrased to try and get you to answer yes to a question like "can you hear me okay". I'm sure they tape record that to twist it around into you consented to something over the phone. Windstream claims there is a 10K fine for this activity but they are powerless to stop it or do anything to actually stop the calls. It ought to be a million dollar fine for telemarketers per occurrence that bug people that are registered on do not call lists. More laws that have no teeth and no enforcement but make people think something is being done. I think taking an ax to the phones is about the only solution left. |
