Sorry about your loss. No matter whose fault and what happened, your friend and neighbor is gone forever. That will not change. Hopefully, all involved can learn to make the next time not happen at all.

We have had grain bins on the farm all of my life. Being in the bin at the end to run the sweep and push grain to the auger has been a fact of life-never knew any different. I did know to keep your shovel down at the end in case sweep got away. Mostly dealt with milo and wheat till recent years. We haven't had problems with grain bridging up. The local Coop says that they are not suppose to be in a bin while grain is flowing out. My son who works for a large multinational corporation says the same thing. If augers and slides are shut are off, they go can go in.

Your question about grain bridging and falling down while standing on the floor would require upper level management to come up with a solution to get it down without endangering lives.
