Subject: RE: Superintendent salaries

Mid Michigan
How can it be so difficult to do the math on somebody getting that many days off a year? Kind of hard to believe but the proof is there. I work in a building where the management NEVER works a weekend. Much like a state or government job. That comes out to 104 days off right there. Now throw in all the paid holidays. I think we get about 12 of those so we're at around 116 days off. Most of these people get at least 20 days of vacation so we're knocking out 136 days off. Couple that with at least 12 paid sick days and we have 148 days off per year. Pretty good gig. Most people have stress in their lives. Management people in large organizations don't experience any higher levels of stress than anybody else in other jobs. Put steel up on a highrise all day or blades on a wind turbine or pour concrete in the sun or in the winter and talk about stress. It has nothing to do with supply and demand. Put a job listing in the paper for one of these school superintendant jobs and see how many applications you receive. There would be a thousand people putting in for them. $250,000 a year with $35,000 thrown in your 401k. Company car, best insurance benefits, pension plan, work in air conditioning all day, 9-5. Weekends and holidays off. Sounds grueling. The people that do the actual work in this country are the ones that have real stress. Your type of argument has been used by these people for decades to keep these outrageous wages in place. "cant find qualified people" Bull chit. Define qualified.
