East Central Ia | I top dress because we are on 20" rows.
But lots of people around here on 30" rows are going to top dress as well. We are very rolling and odd shaped. The Y drop guys have limited acres they run on simply because of the terrain.
Imo top dressing takes a little more management as far as timing goes. But in our area that doesn't seem to be an issue. I use Agrotain and time it ahead of rain.
It doesn't really matter which method you use you still need rain... whether thats to get the N into the soil or into the plant its all dependent on rain.
We have been top dressing for five years now and I love it. Spreading 100-150# i can easily do 600-800acs a day.
